Register To Vote
Who Can Register
You must meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a legal resident of the county
- Be at least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
- Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
- Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge
Note: If you are NOT a United States citizen, registering or VOTING in the federal elections is a MAJOR CRIME.
Submit a Voter Registration Application
There are different way to register to vote:
- Registering to vote Online
- Registering to vote by Mail
- We recommend to download a complete your voter registration application. Once it is completed you can send it to the Secretary of State’s office.
Do not forget to verify if you are properly registered to vote by visiting the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page and submitting your information just as when you register to vote.
- Due to perfect match issues make sure that you type your personal information to register to vote just as it appears in your Driver license.
- After your are successfully register to vote, the Secretary of State will send you a Precinct Card with your polling location within 2-3 weeks or you can check it at My Voter Page .
Time to Vote
You will need to bring one of the following types of identifications:
- Any valid identification with photo issued by the state or federal government, including a free identification issued by the county recorder’s office or by the Driver’s Services Department (DDS, for its acronym in English
- A Driver’s License from the state of Georgia, even if expired.
- A valid identification with photo issued by any branch, department, agency or or government entity of the United States, Georgia or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity in the state.
- A valid passport of the United States.
- A valid identification with photo issued by the United States military forces.
- A valid tribal identification with photo.
The provisional ballot allows the voter to vote in person if he or she does not meet all the requirements to vote on Election Day.
The provisional ballot will only be counted if the problem is resolved within three days of Election Day.
The three reasons to vote provisionally are:
- You cannot present one of the types of photo identification when you are voting in person;
- When you first register to vote in Georgia or by mail and you did not give your identification and can not present a valid identification form the first time you vote in person; or
- Your name does not appear on the list of registered voters in the electoral district.
If you arrive at your polling place and are told that your precinct has changed, you have the right to request a provisional ballot if you cannot get to your precinct.
Due to changes in SB 202, provisional ballots will only be available after 5 pm.
Due to changes by SB 202, absentee ballots may only be requested 78 days prior to an election in Georgia.
SB 202 adds a deadline for requesting an absentee ballot of 11 days before an election.
Ways to request your absentee ballot:
- Online
- Download the absentee ballot application.
After completing your application, send it by traditional mail, via email, fax, or submit a written request to the County Elections Office.
Reminder: You will need to submit an application request for an absentee ballot for every election you want to participate in.
You may opt-in to receive an absentee ballot for the rest of the elections cycle without making another application if you are:
- Disabled. I am physically disabled
- Elderly. I am 65 years of age or older
- I am a uniformed service member, spouse or dependent of a uniformed service member, or the other US citizen residing overseas
Absentee Ballot must be received by the Elections Office before 7:00 p.m. in Election Day.
It is extremely important that if you exercised your vote through an absentee or provisional ballot, verify that it has been counted in your county elections.
